DIY Play Dough

Here is a fun DIY play dough recipe that I do with my kids all the time. They LOVE it! I LOVE it. My friends LOVE it! You will be a GOD, GODDESS, HERO, LOVELY LOVELY person that made them the coolest thing ever! Something to entertain themselves for hours! You will relax because it is THAT easy to make and besides, SERIOUSLY….Who does not like play dough???

This kind of play dough does not contain the following statement….

Play-Doh Ingredients….

“The exact ingredients of PLAY-DOH compound are proprietary, so we cannot share them with you. We can tell you that it is primarily a mixture of water, salt and flour. It does NOT contain peanuts, peanut oil, or any milk byproducts. It DOES contain wheat. PLAY-DOH compound is not a food item and is not intended to be eaten.”

I have learned over the years that if a company is not willing to share ingredients, I am not willing to buy it.

My recipe only contains 5 ingredients (6 if you want it colored, 7 if you want to add essential oils)

Here is the recipe we LOVE….ENJOY!

Supply List:

2 cups Flour

2 cups Water

1/2 cup Salt

2 tsp Oil

4 tsp Cream of tarter

Pot

Heavy duty spoon

Something to cool the playdough on (I used parchment paper)

Optional Ingredients:

Food coloring of your choice (I use all natural food coloring)

5-7 drops Essential Oils of your choice

Directions:

Put the food coloring in the water and mix well if you are using coloring. If not, skip this step altogether.

Heat on med heat.

Stir constantly with a heavy duty spoon. I have broken and bent plastic, silicone, and metal spoons, spatulas, etc. Wooden works best.

Heat until it forms into a mass. Be careful not to over heat the play dough or you will have some dried out dough that your kids will look at you and be like UHM, YEA THANKS! as they give you a really weird look!

Once it is done, take it out of the pan and lay it on something to cool.

If you are using essential oils, you can mix it in the dough once cool.

Here is what you can expect when you give this to your kids. This is my 4 yr old. Yes, she is not wearing a shirt. Not because the coloring will stain them (IT DOES NOT BY THE WAY), but because she is practicing to be a nudist! At home, I am able to get her in biggies with a fight, that is about it!!
