When we first began to switch to eating cleaner and healthier, I looked at the seasoning packets I was using when I made tacos, chili, ranch dressing, etc for the first time and was in awe! I thought I was using only spices. Yep, I was that naive. I never really saw the other ingredients!
Being allergic to Italian seasonings (Yes, oregano is in most taco seasoning mixes.) I had to come up with my own mix to use in place of store bought and online versions minus the oregano in it. As with most things in cooking, when you take something out, you have to figure out what to add back in to replace it. This one took me a LONG time! Here is what I use…
Taco Seasoning Mix
- 2 Tbs chili powder (recipe)
- 5 tsp paprika
- 4 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- 3 tsp onion powder
- 2 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
Directions
Mix until well blended.Use as you normally would and Store in airtight container.
